I was one of those new ‘lockdown’ runners, who thought that even at a certain age this would be the perfect time to smash the couch to 5k…. erm no!Ten days in and I was running through quite intense bilateral inner knee pain, the next morning I was hobbling, the first few days were so intense I moved around only when essential.A friend, and massage therapist, recommended Kesson physio who were offering online consultations due to Covid. I was skeptical but desperate.Within the initially consultation all fears were alleviated. Charlie was thorough and professional, after watching me complete various movements he diagnosed Pes anserine bursitis. We then worked through a series of recommended exercises with guidance. At the end of the session these exercises were emailed to me with easy to follow diagrams.I think I was most impressed with the fact that Charlie did not only look at symptom alleviation but the contributing factors, namely the weakness in my glutes and hamstrings. The initial pain reduced fairly quickly; I was diligent with the exercises completing them each day. I decided on a course of three sessions during which we looked at building strength suitable for my specific goals. The ongoing positive is that I am now much stronger generally and am feeling less pressure within my joints.I’ve decided I’m not a runner, life is too short to do things you don’t love, but with my newfound lower body strength I am building my endurance to tackle a lifelong goal – The Camino. This is my first experience of utilising a physio at all, let alone via zoom, but it has been a great experience and one I would definitely repeat. Now, no matter where in the world I am, any problems and I can see the team at Kesson.
